Upturn in enquiries for industrial space, reports JHI
With the festive season over and January well under way, some media reports reflect increased business confidence in South Africa in general, which is coupled with growing anticipation in regard to the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) Credentials
JHI is dedicated to being a truly representative South African company and by being 35.35% black owned has set the industry benchmark for transformation of established companies within the property industry. According to our calculations JHI scores in excess of 65% against the 5-year Property Charter targets which will result in JHI being a Level 4 (A) company, which enables users of our services to claim 100% on their procurement spent with us.
JHI believes the charter is a clear indication that all players in the industry shook hands to produce a document to which the entire property industry can commit. We are proud to be a part of this important industry development, which has been received with an eagerness and willingness to comply.
Additional to our charter and ownership credentials, we believe other than skills transfer, learner- & mentorships, employment equity and procurement are also important focus areas.
JHI has accommodated around 20 external learners in 2006 to assist them in gaining work experience in the property arena. We are also running an internal learnership and internship program for previously disadvantaged individuals. Since inception this program has gained a lot of momentum.
JHI has had a big drive towards our procurement spend on BEE suppliers. Currently more than 50% of our total procurement spent is with BEE suppliers, up from 12% in 2003.
In terms of our employment equity, we see opportunities to improve and to get more previously disadvantaged individuals involved especially in senior management. We do however realize that it is a process and believe that through our internal skills transfer processes, we can address some of these challenges internally.
